3 reasons why you’re not getting the marketing results you want
May 20, 2023Are you pouring a lot of time, resources and money into your marketing but not getting the sales results you want? Here’s 3 reasons why this might be happening and what you can do about it.
1️⃣ Focussing on tactics before strategy
Do you find yourself being more tactical focused than strategic? As business owners, it’s easy to be distracted by new trends or marketing activities that others say will ‘guarantee’ success and make us go ‘viral’ overnight. But if you’re skipping strategy and jumping straight into execution you’re missing some vital steps. Your tactics need to align with an overall strategy, and without this you could be wasting precious time and money.
Determine your business goals and HOW you’re going to reach them before you decide on tactics. A marketing coach or consultant can help you outline your marketing foundations and strategy to set you in the right direction and make sure that your tactics are suitable for your business and in line with your strategy.
If you’re relying on tactics to get results, but don’t have a strategy to guide you, your marketing activities can lack direction and miss the mark.
2️⃣ Your marketing is not consistent enough
Consistency matters. We want to keep the marketing wheel 'spinning' in our business, with a number of activities being rolled out simultaneously.
Businesses that try an activity (eg. radio, print ads, posting on social media) for a few months, and give up and then switch to something else are missing out on opportunities. Not all marketing activities will deliver instant results, so we have to play the long game. I always recommend clients undertake a variety of marketing initiatives and ‘show up’ in a variety of places where their ideal customers are.
It also helps to test these activities to see what’s actually working and what’s not so you can make adequate adjustments. The beauty of the digital age is that insights and data are easy to access.
3️⃣ Not repeating your key message enough
I know it may feel like you’re repeating yourself over and over again but REPETITION IS KEY. The more people see or hear something, the more they remember it. Familiarity and repetition also build trust.
Focus on your core messaging and what your company does better than competitors and deliver on those every time. Figure out what you want to be known for and make sure this is clearly repeated in all your marketing messaging.
This becomes part of your brand and value proposition and tells people what they can expect from your business. You don’t need to worry about being too repetitive because people don't see EVERY piece of content you share or every marketing activity you do.
So how can I start seeing results?
Take a good look at the marketing you’re already doing. Do you have a well thought out marketing strategy? Are your marketing efforts consistent? Are you repeating your brand messaging enough in your content?
